Why Does Only My Thumb Keep Lifting? The curve modification built for this exact problem

The thumb varies in nail curve more than any other finger, which is why it often lifts even when every other size is correct. How our Straight thumb tip option ($13) fixes it, and how to tell if you need it.

Sakura press-on nail set by écrin nail studio

Of all ten fingers, the thumb varies the most from person to person in side-to-side curve. That is why it is so often the one nail that lifts, or presses uncomfortably at the edges, even when the width is measured correctly. This is exactly what our Straight thumb tip option (+$13) was built to solve.

The short version

Width and curve are two different measurements. Getting the width (the size number) right does not guarantee the curve matches — and the thumb shows this mismatch more than any other finger.

How to add it

  1. Check the Straight thumb tip box on the product page.
  2. Enter your ten size numbers as usual.
  3. We craft that one thumb with the adjusted curve; the other nine tips are made as standard.

If it still lifts after adding this option

Double-check the width matches your actual thumb — a modification to curve cannot compensate for a size that is simply wrong. Warming the tip in water around 40°C (104°F) for ten seconds before applying and pressing from base to edges also helps it settle. If it is still not right, message us on Instagram and we will help you work out what is going on.

Quick answers

Why does only my thumb lift?

The thumb shows more person-to-person variation in side-to-side curve than any other finger, so a curve mismatch between your nail and a standard tip tends to show up there first.

What is the Straight thumb tip modification?

A $13 option that crafts your thumb tip with a flatter internal curve, for when the width is already correct but the thumb still lifts or pinches from curve alone.

When should I use it?

When your size number is right but the thumb specifically still lifts in the centre or presses uncomfortably at the edges — not as a substitute for fixing an incorrect width.

It still doesn't sit right after adding the option — what now?

Re-check that the width itself is correct first; a curve modification can't fix a size that's simply wrong. Warming the tip briefly in warm water before applying often helps it settle the rest of the way.
